Project Care Opioid Education for Somali Women

A Culturally Informed, Trauma-Informed, and Stigma-Reducing Educational Program

Project Care Opioid Education is a free, educational initiative created specifically for Somali women. Whether you are personally affected by substance use or supporting a loved one, this program is designed for every Somali woman seeking to understand, heal, and build resilience in the face of the opioid crisis.

What you will learn

  • Understanding Opioid Use & Family Impact: Gain insight into how opioid use affects mental health and family dynamics within the Somali community.

  • Breaking the Stigma: Learn to overcome cultural barriers and engage in open, non-judgmental conversations about substance use and mental health.

  • Healing & Resilience: Explore healthy coping strategies and trauma-informed practices to manage stress, loss, and emotional pain.

  • Effective Communication & Support: Discover tools for discussing substance use with loved ones and building a supportive network.

  • Integrating Culture & Faith: Learn how Somali cultural strengths and spiritual practices can support recovery and foster well-being.

  • Accessing Resources: Connect with licensed Somali mental health professionals and parenting educators who understand your unique journey.

Program Details

  • Format: Virtual sessions via Zoom

  • Time: Thursday , 09:45 AM – 10:30 AM

  • Duration: One session per month for 6 months
